If your looking for the best candies and handouts for this Halloween, then go no further, I aim to help you find some ideas on what to handout this Halloween.

I remember the excitement I felt as a kid on Halloween, I would race home and beg and plead to my parents to go out and start Trick-or-Treating just 5 minutes sooner, I never prevailed of course, but the point is: Trick-or-Treating is a great experience for kids, so I thought, "What better way to celebrate this Halloween than helping people find trick-or-treat candy and handout ideas?"

Candy

Candy is, of course, the staple of Halloween Trick-or-Treating. There are two distinct types of candies to buy for Halloween, the key is to get the right balance of both to make your house the hit of the neighborhood this Halloween.

1.

1. Hard Candies (Skittles, M&Ms, etc) - You want to get about 1/3 Hard Candies, because, remembering back to my childhood, Hard Candy seemed to ruin the candy experience after several pieces. Hard Candy is great, but try to get less than Chocolates and Soft Candies.

2. Soft Candies (Laffy-Taffy, Now-and-Laters, etc.) -Just like Hard Candies, you should aim for about 1/3 Soft Candies. One of my favorite candies as a kid was Laffy-Taffy and I'm guessing things haven't changed that much!

3. Chocolates (Snickers, Milkyway, Three-Musketeers, etc.) - Chocolate is perhaps the favorite for kids at Halloween, you should try to get about 1/3 Chocolates. Like anything, too much chocolate gets old, so make sure to maintain a balance.

The Healthy Choice: Popcorn

If you're going for the healthier option on Halloween handouts, then popcorn is a great choice! No, i'm not talking about handing out already popped popcorn, but bags of popcorn can be a great handout idea.

Toys and Goodies

Another good alternative to candy is Halloween toys and goodies. These eliminate having to choose between whether you get healthy candy or not, and can be bought in bulk. I used to love getting little glow in the dark toys and little "parachute toy soldiers" on Halloween. Better yet, glow in the dark parachute men! Speaking of glow in the dark stuff, why not try giving out some glow sticks, kids LOVE these, I know I did and they're cheap too! Some other cheap things to try are some "leaping frogs" and some "sticky lizards", I'm sure kids will love flinging the lizards at eachother. Toys last much longer than candy and are sure to increase your "Halloween trick-or-treat street cred" so-to-speak. The best part about toys is, they're so cheap! I'm just going to say that out of all these ideas, the glow sticks are going to be most popular, hands down. For some reason kids are fascinated by the colors, but hey, I'm a lot older and I still love glow sticks!

Books

Okay, maybe not full blown novels, but I remember one Halloween me and my friends went to one man's house and instead of getting candy, we got books. Now, you would think we all would have been disappointed, and at first we were thinking, "What the heck? Books?", but once it sunk in it was actually a really cool thing that man did. Books can be a great non-candy alternative, and hey it must have been a good idea for me to remember this many years later, right?
